The ‘Flora Reacrylica’ series emphasizes the reuse of materials. The pages I have chosen for this work are from a flora book of wildflowers that I used in high school. I have created new flowers on those old pages, but not ones that can found in nature. I scraped the colors that went dry on the painting palette and made flowers with them. By creating flowers made of acrylic material (plastic) and connecting them to the flora book pages I wanted to make us think about the damage done to nature. How plastic can impact the wildflower in nature.
The series ‘‘Wildflower’ was painted entirely in oil pastels in DeNieuweGalerie. The flowers I chose to paint grow in the wild fields, giving me a feeling of home. In my studio, I continued painting the series by adding acrylic paints that partially cover the painted flowers, symbolizing the threat that plastic (from which the acrylic paints are made) poses to nature.
